uh so im chillen at home just now surfing the internet when i hear and feel this rumble and suddenly my lamp is swaying back and forth and my picture frames start falling down. stupid me, clearly its an earthquake (a freakin strong one at that!) and instead of implementing the standard "get under my desk asap" protocol that they've taught us for years since grade school and even now force us to do in earthquake drills at work, i do exactly what i'm NOT supposed to do. i run outside.

sheesh.

5.6 magnitude centered around san jose.

yes, i am officially freaked out and now looking into buying earthquake insurance.

i think the even scarier thing about is this is not the first one i felt this year. and after checking out the earthquake map, it looks like little ones happen pretty frequently multiple times a day.

i still remember that big one in 89. even then, i ran outside when i felt it happen. silly girl.

gotta love livin in california.

behold

"My Dearest Friends and Fans,

It is my greatest honor to present to you The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!,
my new album produced by Trent Reznor and mixed by Alan Moulder. The wall of sound that we've created is tagged with such graffiti that a passerby would seek out doors and ways to ENTER. Once inside a world defined by dreams come true they'd find aligned with the simplest act of sharing what we treasure. Most people aren't aware of the world of art and commerce where exploitation strips each artist down to nigger. Each label, like apartheid, multiplies us by our divide and whips us 'til we conform to lesser figures. What falls between the cracks is a pile of records stacked to the heights of talents hidden from the sun. Yet the energy they put into popularizing smut makes a star of a shiny polished gun. The ballot or the bullet for Mohawk or the mullet is a choice between new times and dying days. And the only way to choose is to jump ship from old truths and trust dolphins as we swim through changing ways. The ways of middlemen proves to be just a passing trend. We need no priests to talk to God. No phone to call her. And when you click the link below, i think it fair that you should know that your purchase will make middlemen much poorer...

NiggyTardust!

love,

Saul"

-------------------

Drops 11/1! word.
http://niggytardust.com/
did i mention, you pay what you want?
yes yes! inspired by radiohead's DIY release of their latest album In Rainbows (which, by the way, is also a MUST cop).
$5 gets you the option of downloading the album in varying levels of quality. or pay nothing and get it @ 192Kbps MP3 format.

stellar

this is a bit long, but pretty amazing.
<lj-embed id="5" />

"There is an excellent dance, called the Thousand-Hand Guanyin. Considering the tight coordination required, their accomplishment is nothing short of amazing, even if they were not all deaf. Yes, you read correctly. All 21 of the dancers are complete deaf-mutes. Relying only on signals from trainers at the four corners of the stage, these extraordinary dancers deliver a visual spectacle that is at once intricate and stirring. Its first major international debut was in Athens at the closing ceremonies for the 2004 Paralympics.

It had long been in the repertoire of the China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe and had traveled to more than 40 countries.

Its lead dancer is 29-year-old Tai Lihua, who has a BA from The Hubei Fine Arts Institute. The video was recorded in Beijing during the Spring Festival celebrations this year."

scott storch is having a moment. i feel like i've been seeing this guy all over the media lately. the bub and i wikipedia-ed him last night. man, this guy has had a most prolific and impressive career. he's worked with such an ecletic group of artists. he worked with the Roots as a keyboardist on their Organix album (one of their best albums, but DOYOUWANTMORE! is still my fave). one thing that really caught my eye was that he produced a several songs on jazzyfatnastees Once in the Future album (one of my ALL TIME favorite albums E.V.E.R...pls cop). it was interesting to discover that some of the songs he produced were Breakthrough (love love love this jam) and Unconventional ways (my future wedding song). i mean the difference in sound between these 2 songs and his current body of work is like night and day, but then the guy just gets it bang on with the melodies. don't get me wrong, i cant stand the likes of paris hilton or brooke hogan, but the music he produced for them is catchy, no? bop your head quality. linger in your brain status. occasionally hum on the sub-concious tip kinda thing (don't front, you know its true). and the guy is just fantastic with a keyboard.

ok so anyway, that was random. just thought i'd give the guy some daps because i love jazzyfatnastees and the roots to death. some of the songs on these albums are attached to really significant times in my life.

but i'm only giving him a moment and now its passed. that guy has to much bling around his neck for his own damn good.

and i am in need of some thoughtfulness...

A Poem..

Love after Love
Derek Walcott

The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, who you ignored
for another who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

-----

i'm warming myself up to more frequent posts. i need to get into a writing mode again. school got me all consumed in adobe-mania the past few months. i need to remember to dance with my first love again. what i really need to do is start invading the empty pages of the 5 or 6 half finished journals i have lying all over the place. technology got me all lazy though. typing is the only way i can seem to keep up with my 100mph thoughts. lj will have to do.

...

unstructured

simplify is the operational word. and when set in motion, it proves quite effective. a direct benefit is sleep. sleep and i....we on talking terms now. she doesn't let me down @ 3am (or keep me up rather). she does however like to ignore my alarm clock. i guess even a good amount of rest still can't get me up quick enough in the morning. the allergy to the AM is perpetual it seems.

i dropped my summer class and now spend most summer evenings after work watching random films. The Squid and the Whale was one of my most recent indulgences. Quirky as hell and completely unapologetic, I found myself muttering, "what in the hell" on more than one occasion. afterward, i spent a few moments finding paralells in the lives of all the different characters and other sorts of random anaylses of plot and theme. I came to the conclusion that I enjoyed this film. Alot.

during one of my 'last in a long time' kick-its with val a couple weeks ago, she made a funny remark about how every piece of her clothing has at one point gotten some sort of stain in its lifetime. i suffer from this same predicment. Against my better judgement, I bought a white blouse last week...even though my remark to val echoed in my head loudly while i was in line to purchase it...."The likelihood of me getting a stain on my shirt is directly proportional to how light the color of my clothing." i am happy to report that the white blouse has been escaping stainage at 7 days and counting. i am sorry I am addicted to neutrals. at least it wasn't brown (but only because the brown was sold out).

i cut off more than 12 inches of my hair 2 weeks ago and didnt even bat an eye afterward. the girl next to me getting her hair cut was bargaining with her stylist to only cut off 2 inches. sheesh. i haven't had my hair this short since my bowl cut and crooked bangs days in 1988 (thanks mom). too bad my camera is broken. a visual would've been nice. anyway, attachment to long hair is over-rated. liberate youself, i say! simplify!
